Rob Britton takes over Tour of the Gila lead after time trial

Sara Poidevin now seven-seconds out of women's lead with two stages to go

Canadian Rob Britton assumed the lead of the Tour of the Gila following Friday’s 26-km time trial in windy Tyrone, New Mexico, U.S.A. The Rally rider was in eighth place and 1:32 behind race leader Christopher Blevins (U.S.A./Hagens Berman Axeon) overnight after two stages but now leads American Gavin Mannion of UnitedHealthcare by almost a minute. Friday’s winner of the men’s chrono was Mannion’s Romanian teammate Serghei Tvetcov.

Another Canadian, James Piccoli of (Elevate-KHS), is seventh, +2:46, and Silber’s Nicolas Zukowsky is 10th at +3:30. Zukowsky is currently leading the best young rider classification.

In the women’s race, Canada’s Sara Poidevin is still second on GC to American Katie Hall, but made up five-seconds on the UnitedHealthcare rider and is now only 7-seconds adrift. Chloe Dygert (USA/Sho-Air Twenty20) beat out Poidevin by 13-seconds over the 26-km, the American taking her second consecutive stage. Poidevin retains the young rider’s jersey.

Dygert’s Canadian teammate Jasmin Duehring is seventh on GC, while Duehring’s team pursuit teammate Kristi Lay (Rally) is ninth.
