Rocky Mountain Stops Sponsoring Kabush

Rocky Mountain stops sponsorship of two-time Olympian mountain biker Geoff Kabush

Ten-times Canadian National Champion in cross country and cyclo-cross, Geoff Kabush was informed yesterday that Rocky Mountain will not renew his sponsorship for 2012.

“I thought we were pretty close to having something with Rocky Mountain sorted, it was a bit of a bomb.” Kabush commented.

“I think that it was just that Rocky Mountain decided that it was too much to take onto run a program. A couple of good years with a lot of support from Maxxis.” added Kabush who started working with Maxxis in 2004. Rocky Mountain became the team co-title sponsor in 2009.

It’s especially bad news with the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games, probably the last games for the two-times Olympian. “I guess those are decisions that are made, unfortunately going into next year’s Olympics.”

Even though Maxxis is continuing as an individual sponsor, the 34-year old from British Columbia, admits that there is still “a lot of work to see how things will sort out the best program going into next year.”

He added, “Getting a bike to race on isn’t going to be a problem for next year, it’s getting financial support that I need. I’m sorting that all out and hopefully I can put together a package that will make things work.”
