Rollin 16th in Milan-San Remo

Dominique Rollin of Montreal finished 16th in a dramatic Milan-San Remo Saturday.

The Francaise des Jeux rider made it into the front group of about 30 riders that split from the rest of the peloton in the closing hours of the 298-km Italian classic.

The move eliminated several favourites from contention, including Garmin-Cervelo’s Thor Hushovd and HTC-Highroad’s Mark Cavendish.

Nine riders — including Rollin’s teammate Yoann Offredo — slipped off the front on the final climb of the Poggio and HTC-Highroad’s Matthew Goss became the first Australian to win in San Remo.

Rollin, the only Canadian in the race, sprinted in 27 seconds later after nearly seven hours of racing.
