Rollin 4th in Qatar finale

Canadian Dominique Rollin was fourth in the fifth and final stage of the Tour of Qatar Friday.

Canadian Dominique Rollin was fourth in the fifth and final stage of the Tour of Qatar Friday after a strong leadout by his new Francaise des Jeux teammates.

The circuit race finished in a bunch sprint won by Andrea Guardini of Farnese Vini.

Rollin was also seventh in Stage 1,won by Tom Boonen (Quickstep) and fourth in Stage 3, won by Heinrich Haussler (Garmin), but two flats on Stage 4 ruined his chances of a good result in the overall standings. In the end, the Montrealer was 15th, 5 minutes and 20 seconds behind winner Mark Renshaw (HTC).

Meanwhile, Ryder Hesjedal of Garmin Cervelo was 19th in the Trofeo Magaluf-Palmanova Thursday, the final leg of the Challenge Mallorca, which is made up of five separate one-day races on the Mediterranean island. Hesjedal, who’s from Victoria, B.C., only competed in the final three legs, finishing sixth in the Trofeo Inca on Tuesday and seventh in the Trofeo Deia on Wednesday.

The other Canadian competing on the international stager this week is Michael Barry of Team Sky, who was sitting 73rd  overall in the Mediterranean Tour in southern France after Friday’s third stage — though it’s still all up for grabs in the sprint-dominated event: Barry’s only 20 seconds out of the overall lead. The race wraps up Sunday.
