Lex Albrecht top Canadian in women's race

Robin Carpenter won his first Winston Salem Cycling Classic title on Monday in the one day UCI 1.1 race in Pennsylvania. The Holowesko-Citadel rider escaped on the courses final KOM, the climb up Pilot View and Summit St.

Ryan Roth of Silber Pro Cycling was defending his 2016 title and finished second 10-seconds behind Carpenter with Canadian National champion Bruno Langlois of Garneau-Quebecor in third. Carpenter was always going to be hard to beat with the overall win at the Tour of Alberta in 2016 under his belt as well as a stage and the overall at the Joe Martin Stage Race in April.

The race which uses a circuit just over 13 km long was 178 km with Carpenter winning in a time just under 4 hours.

In the women’s race, it was Chrono Gatineau winner Lauren Stephens (Team Tibco -Silicon Valley Bank) who took the win. Leah Thomas of Sho-Air Twenty20 was second with Lauretta Hanson of UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling rounding out the podium. Two Canadians were in the top-10 with Stephens teammate Lex Albrecht in sixth. Kirsti Lay of Rally Cycling was ninth.
