Scottish Borders hosts World Enduro Series

Josh Carlson

The second round of the Enduro World Series has shaped up to be a highlight of the 2014 season. The top ten men and women in the standings will race against World Cup legends including Steve Peat.

Nestled into the Scottish Borders, the riders will have to be entirely self sufficient for the two days of racing. The 87km course contains no lifts, and allows no outside support. Riders will have to work their way up a total of 2900m of vertical gain over the eight stages.

2009 Downhill World Champion Steve Peat will race alongside the top World Enduro riders. Fellow Britons Dan Atherton and Tracey Mosely will also compete for top honours. Local riders have also registered for a chance to ride against their heroes, with the entry selling out in under one hour.

On the list of entrants is Josh Carlson, an Australian rider who now calls Vancouver home. Carlson missed the first event in Chile after a crash in training.

The race is part of the TweedLove bike festival, now in it’s fifth year.

“We have a lot of fantastic trails and there are some seriously steep, tight and tech challenges in the woods. Even the world’s best riders will have to think about the best way to deal with some of those trails,” said Neil Dagleish, organizer of the festival.
