Sea Otter Update: Kabush, Batty and others racing Short Track today

Canadian cross country racing stars Geoff Kabush and Emily Batty get their racing under way

Although racing has been going on since Thursday, today is the first day for the pro cross country riders to hit the dirt with the short track XC event at the 20th annual Sea Otter Classic at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway.

In the men’s race, Geoff Kabush will be among the favourites. Other Canadians include Evan Guthrie, Eric Batty, Adam Morka, Drew MacKenzie, Max Plaxton, Craig Richey, Kris Sneddon, and Stefan Widmer.

On the women’s side, 2009 Sea Otter short track champion Emily Batty will be trying to defend her crown. She’ll be joined by a number of other Canadians including Catharine Pendrel, Mical Dyck, Melanie McQuaid, Joele Guynup,

The pro women head out at 2:30 p.m. and the men start racing at 3:15 p.m.

Most of the same group of Canadians will also race in Sunday’s professional cross country race starting at 11:30 a.m. for the women and 2 p.m. for the men.
