Small wins Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau time trial

Numainville finishes second for a second time

Carmen Small (USA) of Specialized-Lululemon won the race against the clock during Monday’s time trial competition at the Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau. Joëlle Numainville (Canada/Optum presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies) returned to the second step of the podium. She stood on the same spot after Saturday’s road race. Chantal Blaak (Netherlands/Tibco to the Top), who did a lot of work in the final lap of the road race to help teammate Shelley Olds take the win, still had enough in the tank to take third spot in the time trial.

The parcours was almost identical to Saturday’s road race, minus roughly 1 km from the eastern stretch along Boul. des Allumettières. Other top road race finishers didn’t do as well as Numainville. Shelley Olds finished seventh in the time trial, while Pawlowska was 15th.

The Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau is a UCI WE 1.1 event, which means Small takes 60 points for the win. Numainville gets 45 UCI points and Blaak, 35.
