Tiffany Cromwell wins Stage 4 of the 2016 Giro Rosa

Leah Kirchmann consistent in eighth for the third stage in a row

For the third stage in a row, Leah Kirchmann of Liv-Plantur finished in eighth place at the Giro d’Italia Internazionale Femminile, the biggest stage race on the women’s WorldTour calendar. The stage that featured a relatively flat profile for 98-km taking the riders from Costa Volpino to Lovere was won by Australian Tiffany Cromwell of Canyon SRAM the day before here 28th birthday.

In an aggressive final 30-km, the peloton reeled in a number of attacks to ensure a bunch sprint. A good lead out from her Canyon-SRAM team placed Cromwell in a position to sprint for the win ahead of Maria Giulia Confalonieri (Lensworld – Zannata) and Aude Biannic (Poitou-Charentes.Futuroscope.86). Kirchmann was boxed in the finale crossing the line in eighth for the third stage in a row. The Winnipeg native took the races first pink jersey winning the prologue. Evelyn Stevens of Boels – Dolmans retained her race lead by three-seconds ahead of Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Rabo-Liv).

Defending 2015 Giro Rosa champion Anna van der Breggen announced today that in 2017 she would move to Boels-Dolmans.

Stage 5 features a 77-km stage that takes the riders up the Mortirolo climb, the cima coppi of the 2016 Giro Rosa. After Stage 4 which did a lap  of Lake Iseo the riders took advantage of the lakes refreshing water.
