The best of April Fool’s Day 2015, the bicycle edition
Jesters and wags were in their glory Wednesday for April Fool’s Day 2015, with several news sources having to qualify their unusual or unlikely sounding stories with “This is not an April Fool’s Day joke.” The whimsical world of cycling was in on the satire, twitting and other mirth making.
Perhaps the most heart-rendering moment for many Edmontonian cyclists Wednesday morning was realizing that a Sun article that announced that 165-km kilometres of bike lanes and paths were to be covered with steel tubing and tarps was just a joke.
Over at Team Smartstop’s Twitter team director Michael Creed made a surprising proclamation.
Breaking news: after a successful training camp @Michael_Creed to come out of retirement to race the Redlands Bicycle Classic next month.

He later clarified his training progress.
“I’ve been motor pacing & yes, I’m on the scooter. I still get a benefit” @Michael_Creed “Oh, & while I don’t own Redlands. I lease there.”

Trek’s Fabian Cancellara may be out of the rest of the Spring Classics from cracked vertebrae suffered at the E3 Harelbeke but his and the team’s funny bones seem to be in fine fettle as they pretended to release a new Cancellara product. There was even a commercial.
