The end of Human Powered Health?

According to GCN, the holding company of the HPH team, Circuit Sport Management, told riders and staff on the men’s squad that they should start looking for jobs elsewhere. Circuit Sport has run the team since 2007, and the team has had other title sponsors such as Rally Beer, Optum and Kelly Benefits.
The report states that Human Powered Health will not be renewing. According to a report on Tuesday from Dutch outlet Wielerflits, it seems the women’s team may continue in 2024.

There is a strong Canadian presence on HPH. On the men’s team there are several Canucks. Charles-Étienne Chrétien, Pier-André Coté, Adam de Vos and Benjamin Perry call the team home. Long-time mechanic Geoff Brown is the European service course manager, and former pro and multiple national champion Eric Wohlberg is the men’s director. Jake Erker, another former Canadian professional, is the chief operating officer.

According to the GCN report, an insider said the end is nigh for the men’s team. “The team will stop. That’s the extent of what we know, and it sounds like the usual struggle with finding sponsors,” the source said.

At the time of the GCN article, there was still hope a new title sponsor would be found, but time is running out.
“There is a possibility, it sounds like, of some sort of rescue. I know that the management is working super hard, and they’ve historically done a super job. So it’s not all hope lost but they wanted to treat everyone with respect and give everyone enough time for those looking for rides and work next week,” the source said.

Team currently racing in Europe

The American ProTeam is based in Spain and shifted from a domestic North American team to one that is primarily based in Europe. The men’s team is currently racing the Tour of Denmark as well the Arctic Race of Norway this week, and is slated to continue to race until the end of the season.

According to the story on Wielerflits the women’s WorldTour team is safe for 2024 and will continue. The Dutch source also confirmed that the HPH men’s team will not continue.

There are no Canadians currently racing on the women’s outfit.

Canadian Cycling Magazine reached out to a representative at Human Powered Health but has not yet received a response.
