The Jumbo boss called Patrick Lefevere about Jonas Vingegaard going to the Vuelta
The Tour of Spain to be a battle royale between Remco, Roglič and the Dane

Jumbo Visma team manager Richard Plugge said he personally told Soudal Quick-Step’s Patrick Lefevere about Jonas Vingegaard’s Vuelta a España participation. Remco Evenepoel, current world champion, is the 2022 winner of the Spanish Grand Tour and has made the race a big target for 2023.
“His facial expression was priceless,” Plugge said in an interview with wielerflits.
“I was on a video call with him,” he said. “And then he asked me if we were only going to the Vuelta with Primoz. I told him afterwards that Jonas would go too. You should have seen his face, haha.”
The Tour de France winner announced he’d be riding with his teammate Primoz Roglič at the third Grand Tour of the year. The two riders will be co-leaders in Spain. Jumbo-Visma has already won the Giro d’Italia as well, so it would be quite the coup to sweep all three.
“We’ve already won it three times with Primoz and Jonas is also a huge contender, so we’re definitely going for the win,” Plugge said.
Jonas Vingegaard: ‘We run on different fuel than Lance Armstrong did’
Vingegaard dominated the Tour de France, with an incredible time trial and performances in the mountains. The Dane rode the Vuelta in 2020, finishing 46th overall and 14th in the best young rider competition.
The Giro d’Italia runner-up Geraint Thomas will also be in Spain.
