Theroux-Izquierdo and Côté claim junior national time trial championships

Canada’s brightest young cycling talent took to the roads of Beauceville, Que., Thursday for the junior national time trial championships.

Dafné Theroux-Izquierdo of the Équipe du Quebec won the women’s race. Theroux-Iziquierdo covered the 14.2-km course in 20 minutes and 13 seconds, 28 seconds faster than the silver medallist Sarah Masson of Team Ontario. Gillian Ellsay of Cycling BC rounded out the podium, 39 seconds in arrears.

In the men’s race, Pier-Andre Côté won the maple-leaf jersey for the Équipe du Quebec. Côté finished the 29.2-km race in 37 minutes and 42 seconds. Connor Byway of Team Ontario earned the second spot, 12 seconds down on the winner. Evan Burtnik of Team Alberta came in third, 26 seconds behind.

The junior men’s and junior women’s national road race championships will be held in Beauceville on Saturday.
