These Tour de France riders have absolutely no clue where they are

The biggest race on earth can be a blur sometimes

“Hello Philadelphia!” The lead singer screams. Silence. A pause. He looks off-stage and then nods. “Hello Boston! How about those Bruins?!” And the crowd roars.

A rock star on Tour is much like a cyclist at the Tour, living out of your suitcase and travelling from city to city in a bus with your mates. Although presumably the nights after each stage aren’t quite as wild as after a concert, the pro cyclists can be forgiven if they forget which city they are in. Every day, riders will wake up, have their breakfast and prepare for the stage. They also pack up their gear and put it on the team bus before starting another stage. The chaos of the starts and finish start to morph into one, and for some riders, it all looks the same.

On Saturday on the official Tour de France Twitter, a question was asked: “Do the riders know the place where we start in the morning? Let’s see.”

Several riders were asked where exactly in France they were in. The correct answer was Libourne, but it seems not everyone was paying attention, or maybe needed another cup of coffee. Or maybe, simply, they don’t care as all that matters is the stage ahead. There’s no time to admire the beautiful architecture, or try the local wine, when you’re a pro cyclist. It’s race, eat, rest, repeat. It doesn’t matter what city or commune you’re in…unless it’s Paris, which means you made it.
