TIBCO names 2012 team, without Numainville

The California-based Team TIBCO announced its 2012 roster on Wednesday, featuring many top Canadians such as Tara Whitten, Veronique Fortin and Erinne Willock.

The California-based Team TIBCO announced its 2012 roster on Wednesday, featuring many top Canadians such as Tara Whitten, Veronique Fortin and Erinne Willock.

But just as newsworthy was the omission of Joelle Numainville of Laval, Que., who rode for TIBCO last season and emerged as one of the world’s top road cyclists in 2011. Numainville is expected to make an announcement on her future in January.

In the meantime, TIBCO has strong expectations for the upcoming season, building its team around leader Amanda Miller of the United States. The American rider had a breakthrough year with strong results in Europe and landing a spot on the U.S. world championships team.

The Canadians, especially Veronique Fortin, 2011 National road champion, will play a key role in TIBCO’s chances for success, said TIBCO manager Linda Jackson. “Vero is an exceptional climber, and a rider whose talent is only starting to emerge,” she said. “We’re really excited to have her and to see how she continues to develop.”

The 31-year-old Fortin won the Canadian title while working full-time as an anesthesiologist.
