AeroVelo aims to design the fastest bike in the world

Bluenose Painted BlurThe current human-powered speed record stands at a 134km-h. Toronto based organization AeroVelo is hoping to smash the current standard later this year in Battle Mountain, Nevada at the World Human-Powered Challenge. Their goal is to hit 145km/h. By improving the efficiency in every facet of the machine the team is confident they can hit their target speed.

The team leader is Todd Reichert who is the chief aerodynamicist. His partner, Cameron Robertson is the chief structural engineer. Together they are spearheading the campaign with a crew of engineering students and volunteers.  The key gains from such a project is creativity and innovation. It teaches those involved how to think outside of normal parameters.

In the past AeroVelo was the organization behind a human powered helicopter which won the AHS Sikorksy Prize by flying for one-minute at an altitude of ten feet.
