Nyhaug has had a strong start to the season. On April 19, at the first SX World Cup event in Manchester, U.K., Nyhaug came in third. It was also an event in which Palmer showed his improving form. He finished 25th overall. In Manchester, fellow BMXer Corey Walsh had a serious crash in the third qualifying moto. While he had hoped to be ready for Papendal, his is not on the list of participants.

On March 30, Nyhaug won bronze at the BMX continental championships in Chula Vista, Calif.

The next instalment of the SX World Cup is in Berlin from June 13 to 14.
