Tour de Beauce Stage 2 Report

Canadian Andrew Pinfold of United Healthcare p/b Maxxis was third today in Thetford-Mines.

The Thetford-Mines, Quebec stage ended in dramatic fashion today with a bunch sprint after 160 kilometers of racing over a hilly and challenging course. David Tanner of Fly V Australia took the second stage of Tour de Beauce with Yuriy Metlushenko of Amore e Vita placing second and Canadian Andrew Pinfold of UnitedHealthcare p/b Maxxis took third.

Stage one winner Rafael Serrano Fernandez (Heraklio-Murcia) is still holding the lead in this challenging stage race. Fernandez is also leading the Best Climber and Best Young Rider competitions. Pinfold has a hold on the Best Sprinter competition and the Best Canadian Rider competition.

An early eight-man breakaway developed and at times had over two minutes on the peloton. Canadians Jean-Sebastien Perron (Garneau Club Chausseres), Jamie Sparling (Team Canada) and Francois Parisien (SpiderTech p/b Planet Energy) were part of this break and active. With 120 kilometers of break away racing in his legs, Perron attacked the break with Sparling, Darren Rolfe (Fly V Australia) and Walker Savidge (Holowesko Partners) joining him. After gaining close to two minutes, the four-man move was caught just as they entered the three closing finishing laps of the course.

Racing continues on Wednesday with the infamous Mount Megantic stage – taking riders on a 154 kilometer romp from St. Georges to Mount Megantic.
