Tour de Beauce Stage 3

Derrick St. John of Garneau Club Chaussures takes second place at the Tour de Beauce.

Derrick St. John had an outstanding day of racing at the Tour de Beauce today with his second place finish on stage 3. This challenging stage took the international field of riders on a 154 kilometer route over some of the steepest climbs the Beauce region of Quebec has to offer. Racing from St. Georges to Mont Megantic, the racers were tested physically and mentally.

Winning on the day was Marc De Maar (Ned) of Unitedhealthcare p/b Maxxis, building on some early season form that has given him the overall lead in the third of six stages. St. John who attacked the break with two kilometers to go was caught by De Maar with a mere 750 meters of racing left, finishing second with Ukranian Valeriy Kobzarenko of Team Type 1 taking the third podium spot. With his second place today, St. John now sits in second overall in the general classification.

Racing at the Tour de Beauce continues on Friday with a 20 kilometer time trial taking the racers in and around Saint Rene, Quebec.
