Canada capped off a great week at the Tour de l’Abitibi with Gavin Hadfield taking the win on the final stage. His teammate Sasha Renaud Tremblay came in second. Team Canada would also take the team G.C. competition, and Luke Valenti won the mountains jersey.

With the win, Hadfield also climbed up to finish fourth overall, with France’s Lucas Mainguenaud keeping the brown leader’s jersey.

“We knew we were down on G.C. at the start of the race but we still planned to get another result and pick up even more UCI points. We had been aggressive the whole tour with our attacks and knew we were running the French down. On Stage seven the race was pretty controlled with an American off the front for a few laps, and the Americans were blocking the whole time. Then the French got organized and chased to the point that they brought the American back,” Hadfield said. “At that time a few attempts for attacks went off the front but were all closed down, including an attack with me and my teammate Felix and another French rider but unfortunately it was closed.”

“I ended up leading into the sprint and as soon as the American jumped and passed me I knew I could outsprint him, from there I was able to put a good gap into him and Sasha was able to pick up second,” Hadfield added.
