Tour de Suisse Stage 6 shortened after landslide

Updated course will leave out early climbs

The sixth stage of the Tour de Suisse will have a different starting point on Friday, leaving out of both the Albula Pass and the Lenzerheide climbs. That means the initial 55 kilometers of today’s stage will be a gradual downhill.

The decision to relocate the starting point was prompted by recent events in the village of Brienz. In May, the village had to be evacuated due to an imminent avalanche threat. Adding to the concern, the warning meter for Brienz had now been elevated to the highest level of danger.

The organizers posted the news about the updated course on Friday. “Phase Blue was declared in Brienz during the night,” the statement read. “The route over the Albula Pass cannot be travelled. The sixth stage of the Tour de Suisse will therefore start in Chur instead of La Punt.
