Trek has issued a voluntary recall of its 2014 Farley and 2015 Farley 6 models, as well as their framesets. The recall follows a “pattern” of five warranty issues connected with consumer comments about noise and looseness in the headsets of both models.

According to a release from Trek, an “abnormality in the connection between the fork and the steerer tube of these select Farley models” is the issue, one that has the potential to cause a structural separation at the base of the steerer tube. While no related injuries have been reported, Trek immediately contacted the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to kick off the recall process. In all, the recall will affect 4,635 bikes worldwide. In the United States, for example, 2,665 bikes will be affected.

Trek, meanwhile, is taking “proactive” measures in bringing attention to the matter.

Along with contacting registered owners of the affected models, Trek is also taking measures through its network of authorized retailers. Those retailers will be provided with a free replacement fork, while meeting the cost of installation. On top of that, the global bike brand is offering a $100 coupon good for any Trek or Bontrager product, if owners of affected bikes bring their rides in for service.

Those owners, Trek says, can expect fast and effective service, with replacement parts available at bike shops around the world. Trek also urges all riders to have their bikes inspected annually, and maintained by a certified mechanic.
