There were some dramatic moments at the Super League Triathlon event in Toulouse on Sunday when Nicole van der Kaay was accidentally knocked into the barriers by her Italian teammate Alice Betto.
The incident happened when Betto unintentionally veered into van der Kaay’s path, causing her to take quick evasive action by colliding with the crowd barrier.

The Kiwi triathlete was sent tumbling from her bike, instinctively reaching out to the barrier in an attempt to break her fall.

Fortunately, van der Kaay emerged from the ordeal unscathed. She even posted video footage of the incident on her Instagram account, where she absolved her teammate of any blame for the collision.

“My race ended early, but no broken bones, only heart,” Her caption read. “This video does not show it all. This was an accident, unfortunately crashes happen in races. We pick ourselves up, lick our wounds and prepare for the next race. Mistakes happen, be kind.”
