U.S. cyclocross star Jeremy Powers throws his power behind a good cause — and into some bunny hops

There's no denying that in the American 'cross scene, Jeremy Powers is at the top of his game -- or, for the rest of his country, *the* game.

There’s no denying that in the American ‘cross scene, Jeremy Powers is at the top of his game — or, for the rest of his country, the game.

He’s also got a pretty big heart, and wants young cyclists to feel the same exultation in the saddle that he does.

For that reason, Powers established the JAM Fund in 2003, along with two friends: Alec Donahue and Mukunda Feldman, the trio having been “brought together with a passion for cycling,” as the website describes. In essence, the JAM Fund’s purpose is to help motivated young cyclists achieve their goals — something that can be difficult to do, even for the most talented of riders, in a sport that can be somewhat expensive. Its relieving the burdens that can weigh down a young rider’s dreams that the JAM Fund sets out to do.

“JAM Fund,” the project’s mission statement reads, “is a comprehensive year-round program with a mission to lower the financial barriers within the sport of cycling and to develop athletes who are cycling’s true ambassadors.” Through the generosity of individual and corporate sponsors, Powell’s philanthropic brainchild puts its weight behind making competitive cycling inclusive for anyone daring enough to try.

“Each year,” that statement adds, “we issue grants including financial and technical resources and professional training to aspiring cyclists who show enthusiasm and determination to do their best.”

This year, Powers and corporate sponsor Nuun have joined forces to give those resources an added boost, creating a 2016 JPOW Cross Calendar to celebrate how the American rider spends his off-season. With this calendar, though, the content is a little more tongue in cheek than boastful, with Powers seen in a bunny suit, doing bunny hops over barriers, as March/April’s humour of the month. The calendars are bi-monthly — marking two months at a time — and they’re currently available for $19, with 100% of the proceeds going towards the JAM Fund.
