U23 Team Putting in Final Prep

Update from the CCA on the latest racing and training of the U23 team based in Belgium.

The U23 men’s team is putting in the final pedal strokes of preparation for this weekend’s Ronde Van Overijssel UCI-sanctioned road race. To get ready for this race, team members were split between resting and recovery and others traveled to Ledegem for a kermesse.

Jamie Riggs, Michael Joanisse and Spencer Smitheman stayed at Tielt-Winge and took the day to hit up the quiet Belgian roads for a recovery ride. Their team mates Owen Harrison, Antoine Duchesne and Keir Plaice opted to attend the Ledegem, West Flanders kermesse.

This race saw over 140 riders lining up for the 120 kilometer race over a flat and fast 7.5 kilometer circuit. The weather was onside with a brilliant sun and temperatures in the 20 Celsius range – good day for a bike race. The race was fast from the start with plenty of attacks and the guys worked hard on their positioning as the large field was strung out single file over hundreds of meters. Duchesne had some bad luck flatting halfway through the race. While Plaice and Harrison rode hard – finishing with the main pack.

Stay tuned for a race report from this weekend’s race.
