Team Ontario dominates the Centurion U23 Challenge

396On Sunday, Ryan Aitcheson of Team Ontario clinched the overall win at the Centurion U23 Prospect Challenge.

Benjamin Perry of Team CHCH won the opening 3.2-km uphill prologue. His teammate William Elliot finished second and Ryan Aitcheson third. With two riders ahead in the general classification, Team CHCH was in prime position to lead the race from start to finish. However, following a somewhat disappointingly low finish in the prologue, Team Ontario took control of a crash-marred criterium, which Aitcheson was able to use a springboard. He won Stage 2 and took the overall lead. His performance was not without some controversy. During the stage, race leader Benjamin Perry was caught up in a major crash as Aitcheson made his winning attack. Nonetheless, the results of the day remained.

In the final 86.6-km road race, Team Ontario swept the podium as Aitcheson won out of a breakaway of seven riders to win and clinch the overall title. Aitcheson’s teammates Brandon Etzl and Peter Disera finished second and third.

The top two GC places remained unchanged from stage two. Benjamin Perry held onto second overall while Brandon Etzl finished third. Full results can be found at the Ontario Cycling Association.
