Update from the Track World Championships

Update on Canadians racing at the Track World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The Canadian Track team is competing this week at the World Track Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Track World Championships started on March 24 and end on March 28.

This year, the Canadian team is made of nine experienced riders: Zach Bell, Julia Bradley, Laura Brown, Stephane Cossette, Stephanie Roorda, Travis Smith, Monique Sullivan, Joseph Veloce, and Tara Whitten.

On Wednesday, March 24, the Canadian team was busy with a number of riders racing:
– Whitten competed in the Individual Pursuit – finishing 9th
– Sullivan competed in the 500 meter Time Trial – finishing 14th
– Cossette, Smith, and Veloce competed in the Team Sprint – finishing 11th
– Zach Bell competed in the 40 kilometer Points race – DNF

Today, on Thursday March 25, Canadians raced in the following events:
– Smith competed in the Keirin – finished 13th
– Bell competed in the 15 kilometer Scratch race – finished 11th
– Brown, Roorda, and Whitten competed in the 3 km Team Pursuit – finished 6th (set a new Canadian record of 3:26.132)

With a day off for the Canadian team on Friday, the racing returns on Saturday with:
– Whitten competing in the Omnium events (200 meter Time Trial, 5 kilometer Scratch race, 2 kilometer Individual Pursuit, 10 kilometer Points Race, and 500 meter Time Trial)
– Smith competing in the Sprint competition

On the final day of racing, Sunday March 28, Team Canada can be seen racing:
– Sullivan in the Keirin
– Whitten in the 25 kilometer Points race
– Men Sprint finals
