Vélo Mont-Tremblant, a not-for-profit group with a mission of developing and promoting cycling in the beautiful Mont-Tremblant region of Quebec, has annouced a series of new initiatives — and a vital partnership with another big name in Canadian outdoor recreation and cycling.

That big name, the organization announced, is Mountain Equipment Co-Op.

“We are very pleased to announce a new collaboration with MEC, a leading Canadian outdoor retailer,” the organiation announced in a release. The partnership, they said, came naturally. MEC’s mission to inspire the adption of an active lifestye and a passion for mountan biking fits hand-in-globe with Vélo Mont-Tremblant’s own priorities, and not only that, it represents a step forward for the Canadian outdoors brand with respect to their presence in the Laurentian region of Quebec.

“This is the first long-term community partnership for MEC in the Laurentians,” the release continued, “and will allow it to go beyond its monetary contribution by participating in the development of the organization’s infrastructure. The vision of Vélo Mont-Tremblant, the organization said, is to become a major international destination for cyclists involved in all forms of the sport — and with some of their other announcements, some great strides towards that goal appear to be being made.

Vélo Mont-Tremblant also received a $100,000 grant from the City of Mont-Tremblant and Canada’s Ecomomic Action Plan recently, money the group plans to leverage for various projects focused on giving trails a bit of a facelift. In all, 37 spots on ten different trails will get that treatment, with repairs, new bridges, rock zonesm deviations, and other improvements to the mountain bike trails planned.

“Les Poules’ workshop,” a women’s-only mountain bike camp, is also in the works, derived from the success of last year’s workshop and a weekly women’s ride called “Les poules qui roulent.” It’s open to riders of all skill levels, with a special focus on mountain biking and the improving of technical skills. Programs offered, Vélo Mont-Tremblant announced, include full day courses detailing basic mechanics, workshop skills, and yoga sessions.

Registration costs $40 per person, plus applicable taxs, and more information can be found online at velomonttremblant.com.
