WADA head advises Contador to skip Tour de France

"Legally, he has the right . . ."

Although World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) director David Howman said a week ago that he “repects” the delay in Alberto Contador’s hearing with the Court of Arbitration in Sport, he advised Contador not to race the Tour de France in July.

Howman told a Spanish newspaper, “Legally, he has the right. It’s up to him. I would advise him not to do it.”

Contador’s hearing was moved from the end of June to August 1-3. After being reinstated by the Spanish cycling federation early in the season, he has been able to win the Volta Catalunya and, just last month, the Giro d’Italia, his second Giro title. The Tour de France begins in 27 days with a challenging stage that takes in the Passage du Gois.
