Emily Batty has been selected to represent Canada at the Rio Olympic games in August. The native of Brooklin, Ont. is fresh off of a bronze medal performance at the world championships in the Czech Republic. In this episode of her Ambitions series she talks about her performances at the Albstadt and La Bresse rounds of the world cup. At Albstadt, Batty finished in 12th, a result she expressed disappointment in after on her Twitter saying, “I have more than 12th in me. Time to optimize the form before the next round in France.”

She elaborates about the disappointment in her performance saying in episode seven saying, “You know you come across the finish line and you just have this empty hollow feeling like what the heck just happened…you start questioning what you are doing.”

Batty managed to rebound after Albstadt and in La Bresse she put in a very strong performance finishing on the podium in second place despite having a second row call up. Catherine Pendrel rounded out the podium in third in La Bresse behind winner Jolanda Neff.

Batty earned her first world championship medal in Nove Mesto na Morave, Czech Republic after narrowly holding off Poland’s Maja Wloszczowska in a sprint. Her medal performance at worlds shows that her form is building towards the Olympics.
