Watch: Dad’s quick reflexes stops kid from collision with parked truck

Footage of father bounding into action goes viral and sparks debate

The memory of learning to bike is deeply entrenched into many of us. When the training wheels come off, the exhilaration of finally riding unsupported is quite exciting. Video of a young boy with the support of his father practicing riding on a quiet suburban street has gone viral. The father’s quick reaction when his son veers towards a collision with a parked car shows his impressive fatherly reflexes.

The video shows the father steadying and then releasing his son. The young boy pedals enthusiastically down the street. As the father jogs next to his son, a slight change in direction results in the youngster heading straight for the rear bumper of a parked pickup truck. The father bounds into action and manages to snatch his son off the bike at the last second before the boy crashes.

The footage was shared on Imgur but it was on a Reddit post that it got a lot of attention. Posted on the subreddit Nonononoyes, the post titled ‘True dad reflexes’ has sparked discussion because the youngster isn’t wearing a helmet. The top comment reads, “That kid needs a helmet.” While the quick reflexes of the father are admirable it’s this debate that most commentators have been focused on.
