Why fall is the best season for riding and #gramming

The definitive reasons autumn is the greatest time of year for riding your bike and creating beautiful content for social media

Fall

Autumn is a beautiful month. The leaves are changing, the light is beautiful, the sun’s rays are still warm and the air is fresh. Perfect conditions for riding bicycles, arguably even the best season to ride. To take advantage of the season you’ll want to have head out on your bike with your phone or compact camera ready to create some sweet social media content. The conditions aren’t only perfect for riding but also for upping your Instagram game. Here are the reasons we think fall is the best season for bike riding and #gramming:

1. The #lightbro

Less daylight in autumn isn’t all bad. You may have less time to ride while the sun is up but when it is around it’s lower in the sky making the early morning and evening light even more dramatic. These conditions are perfect for snapping a great fall riding photo. You also don’t have to get up early or stay up late for sunset and sunrise shots #loweffortinfluencer. Don’t forget to tag #canadiancycling and @CanadianCycling in your posts Instagram posts

2. The fall colours

People travel from all over the world to see Canada’s beautiful foliage during autumn. Don’t take it for granted. Take advantage of these beautiful conditions to get outside and ride. The combination of yellow, orange, red and green foliage can be captured beautifully in photos.

3. The cool fresh air

Admit it, you may tolerate heat and humidity for riding but the fresh cool air of autumn is far more pleasant for riding. Not only will you sweat significantly less in the cooler conditions but some people just feel more energized to do exercise in the crisp, fresh air. You likely won’t get heat stroke or frostbite during the pleasant fall temperatures either, which you risk riding in the heat of summer and the cold of winter. There is also an increased chance you will encounter some moody fog or potential trace amounts of snow that make you look hardcore without actually changing your ride experience much. Not to mention, you’ll be able to snap those epic “I can see my breath” shots.

4. More retail space to show off your extra fashionable bike gear

Yes, a downside of riding when it’s cooler is you need to wear more apparel. This can be very positive thing though. You have more space to show off your style. You can rock your favourite Buff to keep your neck warm. Throw on a nice jacket and tights for a stylish buddled up look. There is also a strong argument to be made that a vest and arm warmers are integral parts of the most stylish cycling outfits. Better yet, you can cover up your less-than-crisp tan lines and hide your pale white legs that show you didn’t ride as much outside as you hoped to this summer.  So embrace the cold by upping your style game and of course capturing your outfit in photos.

5. Cyclocross

The season for playing on muddy circuits while getting heckled by your friends is finally here. ‘Cross is usually pretty relaxed and the people who come out are looking to have a fun day out on the bike. The spectator friendly courses make it enjoyable to stick around after you compete to watch other riders nail the technical features you bungled up in your race. Capture some sweet content for the ‘gram of you friends heckling each other or the crowd going crazy with the cowbells.

6. Adventure

Hello dirt, trail, single track, fire road and any other surface you usually don’t ride on. Autumn is the perfect time to head off the beaten track into areas you don’t usually ride. That can mean a variety of things but seek out the type of riding that is the most fun for you. Just go out and have fun. There should be no pressure to train harder, ride longer or suffer more. Once on these adventures look for opportunities to snap funny photos of your riding companions navigating the unfamiliar terrain.

7. Harvest season

Autumn vegetables, gourds, and fruits are delicious. Warm spiced harvest soups, sweet sticky treats, roasted veges, pies and more, oh my! The autumn recipes you can fuel your riding with are endless and guess what, these harvested fresh crops are very photogenic. So before digging into that pie mid-ride, make sure to snap a shop for the Instagram account.
