Wout van Aert made soloing ahead of pack at full speed never looked easier

The Belgian made an incredible display of power at the Tour of Britain

Wout van Aert wins in Britain

Jumbo-Visma’s Wout van Aert took a stunning solo victory in Stage 5 of the Tour of Britain. The race looked like it would end in a sprint, until the Dutch super squad pulled a fast one on the peloton. With WvA leading, Olav Kooij let the wheel go slightly, giving the Belgian a gap. And boy oh boy, did he use it.

Van Aert absolutely hammered it in the final kilometre, putting time into the pack into a strong headwind. This was his third win of the year, and was it ever impressive.

According to Velon CC, his 60-second effort was an average of 810 (!) watts, as he averaged 55 km/h (again, into a headwind) with a max power of 1480.

Here’s the winning move.
