Officials with Tourism London, the Forest City Velodrome and the Ontario Cycling Association re-opened registration for this weekend’s Youth Cup Series Finale and Ontario criterium championship, happening on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. But if you’re interested, act quickly — registration closes again today at noon.

Saturday’s Youth Cup finale consists of the Youth Cup road race and individual time trial. With the road race extending 1.35 km per lap, technical specifics of the event are ideal for young riders, representing a broad range of age groups. A closed course, the 20 foot wide roadway opens up a comfortable space for riding, with safe, gradual turns and few tight corners. The course also involves no elevation change.

The competition starts on Admiral Drive in London, Ont., looping around Sovereign Road back to the finish line. Youth time trial races start at 9:00 am with the Squirt Boys and Girls race continuing until 10:15, and the road races begin at 11:00 am, with the last rolling out at 1:00 pm. Both competitions are divided into squirt (ages 9-10), PeeWee (ages 11-12), Minime (ages 13-15), and Cadet (ages 15-16).

And on Sunday, at the same location, the 2015 Ontario provincial criterium championships roll out. As with the Youth Cup, it’s a challenging but accessible course: 1.4 km in length, with wide, accommodating lanes and smooth pavement. Races kick off at 8:30 am with the Sport category, and conclude at 2:15 pm, when the Master A men’s race starts.

For the Youth Cup, last-minute entrants can visit the official website, and the same is available to would-be contestants at the Ontario criterium championships. A full list of rules and requirements can also be found online.

Once again, registration closes today, September 11, at 12:00 pm Eastern time.
