Lake of Bays Road Race adds a second Ontario up event; the Brunel Time Trial

LakeOfBaysOn August 23 the inaugural Brunel Time Trial will take place in Huntsville, On. The event is more or less a rescheduled Ontario Cup time trial after the previous June 6th date was cancelled. The race is being spearheaded in conjunction with the Lake of Bays Road Race by Real Deal Racing’s Mike Mandel and Lake of Bays organizer Bruce Bird.

For the time trial there will be two distances available for those who are competing. However Ontario Cup points will only be awarded to those racing over certain distances within their respective categories. The elite’s men’s event will feature a relatively long course at 43km. It will be a major test before the 170km Ontario Cup Lake of Bays road race scheduled for the next day.

On August 24, the second Ontario Cup road event of the weekend will host 12 race categories.  Each race will be 94km or 170km depending on the category. Race organizer Bruce Bird is adamant that each category races a proper distance that is aligned with their abilities and the level of competition. He’s cited the difficulties race organizers have faced in the past and has advocated to have  a proper race distance for all levels.

This year’s Lake of Bays race has been moved from May to August – with some luck the weather will hopefully be far more pleasant. Last year, Andrew House (Coach Chris) soloed to victory in the elite men’s road race after surviving atrocious conditions.
