Mattamy National Cycling Centre seat and plank sale opens April 1

make-it-happen-logoStarting April 1, supporters of Canadian cycling can have their names etched in a national cycling centre. The Mattamy National Cycling Centre, also known as the Milton velodrome, is launching a program to sell each seat of the 1,500-seat stadium. There is still $1.3 million left to raise for the velodrome’s completion. With a donation of $250, cycling enthusiasts can get their names inscribed into the permanent seating. For $25, supporters can buy a virtual plank from the track.

To date the Make it Happen campaign has managed to raise 89 per cent of the $14 million target. To close the funding gap, there are other formalized sponsorship opportunities that have yet to come to the fore.

The Mattamy National Cycling Centre is slated to be completed in September. Inside will be the new Cycling Canada headquarters, a fitness centre, retail bicycle store and a 300-m running track. The facility will be Canada’s only 250-m indoor velodrome and will attract many of the world’s top racers and athletes at international events.

The first race on the velodrome will be the Milton International Challenge on Oct. 17. The Canadian national track championships will be the following week beginning on Oct. 22.
