2013 Ontario time trial championships

On Saturday, Ontario’s best time triallists competed in their respective categories for the Ontario time trial championship title. Held in Chatham-Kent, Ont., the race featured riders of all categories who faced courses ranging from 15 km to 35 km. The out and back route was primarily flat, allowing riders to reach the high average speeds across all of the race categories.

Jamie Gilgen (Infinit Canada/Cyclepower) won the elite women’s time trial with an average speed of 41.2 km/h over the 25-km course. Finishing second was Laura Gazzola (P-K Express/HNZStrategic.com) and Suzanne Zelazo (Trek Store C.C.) came in third.

For the elite men’s race, the day’s spoils went to Aaron Fillion (Ride with Rendall). The 2009 Canadian road champion blazed the 35km course with an average speed of 50 km/h. Finishing second was Derrek Ivey (UW+TC DE VOLHARDING), who recently returned from a stint in Europe. Perennial favourite, Bruce Bird (Wheels of Bloor/Graywood Development), finished third.
