Second win for Lambert-Lemay in Tour de la Montérégie

The Garneau-Quebecor rider wins the third race of the series

On Sunday, Simon Lambert-Lemay (Garneau-Quebecor) sprinted away from an elite field to take his second consecutive win in the Tour de la Montérégie at the GP Brossard. The men’s criterium was hotly contested and made for an exciting race. In the early going, a group of 15 riders, including Stephen Keeping (Steven’s Racing powered by The Cyclery) escaped. “We rolled well but the group was too big,” Keeping said. “Guys started sitting on, which caused discord in the group.”

With 10 minutes remaining on the clock, attacks started causing further disorganization and tactical apprehension in the lead group. With three laps to go, the gap between the break and the main field was down to 12 seconds. Ultimately the main peloton closed the gap completely and caught the escape group  during the final lap. Lambert-Lemay, who timed his sprint perfectly, rocketed away from the bunch to take the win ahead of Bob Bailey (Dealer.com-EverBank) and Jean Sebastien Perron (Steven Racing powered by The Cyclery). Lambert-Lemay is the overall leader of the series.

The women’s race was also won in a sprint finish. Catherine Dessureault, who was racing independently, finished ahead of Audrey Bernard and Adriane Provost, both of Steven’s Racing powered by The Cyclery.

The next stop for the Tour de la Montérégie is the Grand Prix de Granby, an individual time trial on Sat., May 11.
