Tour of Terra Cotta

New bike-shop challenge and fundraiser added to the race

The Tour of Terra Cotta started in 2005 as a collaborative project between the Brampton Cycling Club and the community of Terra Cotta. In 2008, it became more of a community-oriented event. On Aug. 5, that trend will continue as the race has added a fundraiser for the Caledon Meals on Wheels program and the Terra Cotta Community Centre.

The riders who compete at the Tour of Terra Cotta range from eight years old to 80. It appeals to a wide range of cyclists in Ontario. In addition to the standard youth, beginner, intermediate and elite categories, the race has added a fourth category of competition: the bike-shop challenge. This event allows five-person teams to race the 52-km intermediate course against other retailers. The prize for this event is cash and, of course, bragging rights among the other shops.

Located roughly 60 km northwest of Toronto, Terra Cotta is surrounded by picturesque roads. The race itself is held over a course that is a little less than 9 km in length. With undulating climbs the race will undoubtedly be selective and testing for all.

In addition to the competition, there will be a festival. A beer garden, barbecue and a vendor expo will be by the start/finish line.

Information on the day’s events, races, categories and location can be found on the Tour of Terra Cotta web site
