Round-up of our favourite Halloween costumes

Ghouls and minions, sumo wrestlers and gladiators all were spotted riding bikes to celebrate Halloween

Most of the year, cyclists are decked out in spandex often adorned with bright colours and logos which to some may appear to be a costume. Halloween is the one time of year when cyclists can dress up like everyone else to celebrate All Hallows’ Eve.

Cyclocross races have taken advantage of the occasion to encourage participants to dress up for their race while others take the initiative on their own. Cyclists in other disciplines also take the opportunity to dress up themselves and sometimes their bike. Check out some of the costumes cyclists shared over the Halloween festivities.

The Midweek Cycling Club hosts weekly cross races in Toronto’s Centennial Park. on Tuesday nights. A posy of youngsters took the opportunity to dress up early.

Over the weekend in Calgary a pair of sumo wrestlers lined up at Bean’s N’ Barley. We wonder how they fared hauling their bulk through the courses tight corners.

At Pumpkin Cross in Maple Ridge, B.C. there was a prize for the best costume. This minion surely gave the field a run for their money.

Though there were certainly some other good contenders.

In Montreal, the McGill Cycling Team did their weekly king/queen of the mountain ride in costumes earning some long stares from morning commuters as they raced up the cities climbs.

Olympian Emily Batty who calls Brooklin, Ont. home did a ghostly photo-shoot with her Trek race machine.

 

The Halifax Cycling Coalition invited cyclists out to their I Light HFX awareness ride with on the evening the clocks fall back.

Steve Bauer is an icon and role model to many young Canadian cyclists. It was announced that Bauer would be leaving his role at the Mattamy National Cycling Center to join the WorldTour team BMC Racing for 2017.

Finally, over on the other side of the border in Oregon a gladiator contested Cyclocross Crusade dismounting from his chopper bike on the heels of a shark.
