On Wednesday, the DVV Trofee Cyclocross series resumes in Oudenaarde with Koppenbergcross. It is one of the can’t miss ‘cross races of the European season. Featuring the cobbled Koppenberg climb that plays a prominent role in the Ronde van Vlaanderen. The finish line at Koppenbercross sits at the top of the short brutal climb with the riders tackling it’s most brutal sections on each lap of the race

The Koppenberg is a 600 m stretch of cobbled road that rises at an average 11 per cent gradient. The steepest pitches on the climb are 22 per cent with some pro riders forced to walk their bikes up it when the Tour of Flanders uses it in the spring. The cyclocross race only uses the entirety of the climb on the first lap after which the course jonis it part way up from the adjacent field.

Wout Van Aert has won the last three editions of Koppenbercross with Sven Nys earning the most wins at the venue with nine. Jolien Verschueren has won the past two women’s editions of the race.

The first round of the DVV Trofee cyclocross was a magnificent battle in at the GP Mario De Clercq Ronse. It was Lars van den Haar (Telenet Fidea Lions) who took the win using a massive attack to go solo ahead of Mathieu van der Poel (Beobank-Corendon) and Van Aert (Crelan-Charles). In the women’s race Katie Compton (KFC Racing) won ahead of Maud Kaptheijns (Crelan-Charles) and Helen Wyman (Kona Factory Racing). The DVV Trofee series consists of 11 rounds and concludes in Lille on February 10, 2018.
