Bikes go missing at Hudson’s Bay Centre in Toronto

bikelockAccording to an article posted on CBC’s website on Thursday, a number of locked bicycles were going missing in front of the Hundson’s Bay Centre in downtown Toronto. Two cyclists thought that their bicycles had been stolen when in fact Brookfield Office Properties, the real estate company who manages the property had asked their security staff to remove bicycles locked up in front of the building. They cited that the bicycles were in fact on private property and not city property.

After one disgruntled cyclist resorted to social media to have his case heard, the story really gained momentum. According to Brookfield, the TTC pole which the bikes were locked to is on their property. However, according to the City of Toronto, the pole is in fact on city property.

The dispute pertains the fact that the pole is only just within city limits at 4.8-metres from the from the sidewalk, although the pole is very close to Brookfield’s property boundary.

Disgruntled cyclists are looking to have the cost of their damaged bicycle locks replaced by Brookfield. A full investigation should be completed next week.
