Two riders win the Blue Mountain Centurion

88fb5a7a320c51bc5ac0d5163ed1ea3eThe biggest challenge of the Blue Mountain Centurion this past Sunday was actually determining the winner of the keystone event, the C100, a 161-km race with 623 riders in the field. It appeared as though Jeff Schiller (Jet Fuel – Norco) had won the race overall as he raised his arms in victory. He had thought he had defeated Ed Veal (Realdeal Racing) in a hotly contested sprint. It turns out Schiller had raised his arms prematurely, likely because the finish line wasn’t clear. It seems there were two: the chip-timer line and the white finish line. Race organizers were unable to determine an outright winner of the race. Thus, Ed Veal and Jeff Schiller officially tied as co-winners and deservedly so. Both riders had a fantastic race and were well ahead of Gaelen Merritt (Waterloo Cycling Club), who finished third, and the rest of the field.

Suzie Brown of P-K Express/HNZ Strategic.com was the first woman to cross the finish line of the 161-km race. She was she was 62nd overall with a time of 4:32:29. Her teammate Laura Gazzola and Merrill Collins of La Bicicletta finished behind Brown in second and third respectively.

Full results and the breakdown of the many categories throughout the entire event can be found at Centurion.
