After a quiet couple of weeks in Europe, the racing resumes in full force in Belgium for rounds of the DVV Trofee and Superprestige cyclocross series. These rounds should give us a good indication of who is going strong ahead of the Christmas Cross period. Two rounds of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup come around Christmas, at Namur on Dec. 23 and Heusden-Zolder on Boxing Day, and 12 Canadians will be there for the busy Christmas Cross period.
DVV Trofee Scheldecross, Antwerp – Saturday, Dec. 15
The fourth round of the DVV Trophy cyclocross series will once again be brought to viewers across the world by Trek who will be hosting a live stream. Toon Aert leads the men’s series over Lars van der Haar while Sanne Cant is 31 second ahead of Ellen van Loy in the elite women’s overall standings. Mathieu van der Poel and Annemarie Worst won the last round at Flandriencross in Hamme. The course in Antwerp was lent itself to some incredible racing in past years with it’s high speed sandy course. Make sure to tune in for the action. The women race at 6:45 a.m. EST and the men at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Superprestige Zonhoven – Sunday, Dec. 16
The Superprestige series resumes on Sunday after over a month since the last round at Gavare where van der Poel and Alice Maria Arfuzzi were victorious. The action from Zonhoven will be live at FloBikes. It’s the fifth round of eight in the series. The sandy dunes of Zonhoven have become a classic venue for the event which features some huge elevation difference as riders run up and then fly down the sand dunes. Coverage starts at 6:40 a.m. and will wrap up by 9:40 a.m. so set your alarm clocks to catch all the racing.
