2023 UCI world championships Day 11 recap

On Sunday, Team Canada concluded its 11-day racing campaign at the 2023 super worlds in Glasgow. The inaugural event saw athletes across the globe compete in all disciplines of cycling, save for cyclocross.

Para-road

Canada was entered in the handcycling (H) team relay race. The squad consisted of Alexander Hyndman (H3) from Blenheim, Ont., Joey Desjardins (H3) from Hawkesbury, Ont., and Matthew Kinnie (H2) from Riverview, N.B. They combined their efforts for a seventh-place finish, crossing the line 2:23 behind the victorious French team.

Road

The final race of the day was the elite and u-23 women’s road race. The 154.1km event took place on the Glasgow finishing circuits. Olivia Baril of Rouyn-Noranda was top finisher in 32nd, with Alison Jackson coming in 33rd and Simone Boilard in 34th.

Lotte Kopecky is the first Belgian elite women’s world road race champion in 50 years

The winner of the race was Lotte Kopecky, taking a big victory in a very successful week for her. The Belgian already won gold medals in the points and elimination races.

Men’s

Tom Pidcock took an impressive win in the XCO, after the other favourite Mathieu van der Poel crashed out early.

Women

Pauline Ferrand-Prevot took home another rainbow jersey, dominating the race. It was her second win of the week.
