5 wild moments from the road worlds events this past weekend
All kinds of drama in the juniors and elites
Saturday and Sunday saw juniors, as well as the elite men head out in search of a rainbow jersey in the road races. The sharp and twisty Glasgow circuit created some incredibly memorable racing. France’s Julie Bego took the win in the junior women’s race, with Canada’s Isabella Holmgren finishing eighth. Albert Philipsen took the junior men’s rainbow jersey, and of course Mathieu van der Poel took a win for the ages in the elite men’s.

There was confusion between the marshal and spectators as Bego came to the line. Thankfully she was OK, but it could have gone much worse.

3. Mathieu van der Poel breaks his shoe…but still wins
A late-race crash saw the Dutchman damage his shoe. He broke his Boa off in dramatic fashion and went on to the victory. Little did we know that wasn’t the only part he had bunged up on his shoe.

4. Elite men’s race halted for 40 minutes
The elite men probably had some coffee shop legs after a long break due to protesters on the course. Thankfully there was still a long way to go, including the wild Glasgow circuits.
