Adam Yates and his dog

Adam Yates took a fantastic win to open up the 2023 Tour de France, giving him the yellow jersey. Turns out, it’s not only the Brit that gets to wear the maillot jaune on Stage 2. The UAE Team Emirates rider took the victory over his twin brother Simon Yates (Jayco-Alula) on Saturday after they took off after the Côte de Pike toward of the end of the stage in Bilbao, Spain.

Yates spends a lot of time with his dog, which seems to be a Samoyed, either when training or on the road. He doesn’t always bring his dog Zoe to races, but it seems like he’s made an exception for the biggest bike event of the year. And it seems like the big floofball is a good luck charm for the 30-year-old.

On Sunday, it looks like someone made sure his puppers was dressed for the occasion. And this doggo 100 per cent understood the assignment when she showed up as the outright leader of the Grand Barkle. Author and television reporter Sophie Smith tweeted some photos of the adorable pooch, ready to roll out in pursuit of some snacks and cuddles.

Stage 2 is another hilly race in the Basque country. The 208.9km course will also go over the Jaizkibel climb, a tough, 9 km ascent. Adam leads his brother Simon by four seconds, with Tadej Pogacar sitting in fourth, just 12 seconds behind. 2022 winner Jonas Vingegaard finished 9th, in the same group as Pog and Ottawa’s Mike Woods (Israel – Premier Tech).
