Kirchmann and Routley in second place overall at Redlands

Canada’s Leah Kirchmann and Will Routley, Optum presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies teammates, are sitting in second place in the elite women’s and men’s overall classifications following Stage 2 at the Redlands Bicycle Classic on Thursday.

Kirchmann, the national criterium champion, placed second in the elite women’s 12.6-km time trial, 35 seconds behind the stage winner Alison Powers’ (UnitedHealthcare) winning time of 16:23 minutes.

Canadians Jasmin Glaesser (Team Tibco) placed 10th and Karol Ann Canuel (Specialized-lululemon) placed 19th.

Kirchmann moved into second place in the overall classification, 34 seconds behind Powers, and Canuel slipped into 6th place.

Tom Zirbel (Optum presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies) won the elite men’s 12.6-km time trial up to Big Bear in 14:56 minutes, beating Serghei Tvetcov (Jelly Belly presented by Maxis) and Samuel Snipe-Grove (Incycle-Predator Components).

Canadians Rob Britton (Team SmartStop) placed 5th, Routley 6th, Ryan Roth (Jet Fuel Coffee-Norco Bicycles) 13th and national road champion Zach Bell (Team SmartStop) in 14th.

Routley’s performance moved him into second place in the overall ranking, one second behind Zirbel. Britton is sitting in 6th place and Roth 13th place overall.

Bailey McKnight (Jet Fuel Coffee-Norco Bicycles) is currently leading the mountains classification.

Redlands Bicycle Classic is the first race on the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar (NRC) and is held from April 2 to 6 in California.
