Michael van den Ham joins Cycle-Smart as an associate coach

Canadian cyclocross rider Michael van den Ham has joined Cycle-Smart as an associate coach for 2016. The Cycle-Smart grassroots team offers riders without access to a local club the ability to be trained by coaches and benefit from the organization's product deals.

Canadian cyclocross rider Michael van den Ham has joined Cycle-Smart as an associate coach for 2016. The Cycle-Smart grassroots team offers riders without access to a local club the ability to be trained by coaches and benefit from the organization’s product deals. Cycle-Smart also offers services such as training programs, camps, clinics, seminars and nutrition plans. Van de Ham, who is based in Edmonton, trained under Cycle-Smart for five seasons and transitions to a coaching role where he hopes to share what he learned as a racer.

Van den Ham has competed at multiple national cyclocross championships. In 2014, he finished third after Mike Garrigan and Geoff Kabush. In 2013, he became the under-23 national champion. Also that year, he represented Canada at the world championships in Louisville. He was back at worlds in 2014 (Hoogerheide), and this past winter in Zolder.. He has experienced living and racing in the U.S. and Belgium and has earned his bachelor’s degree in politics. For the past two years, he rode with the Red Truck Team. Van den Ham is currently the second-ranked men’s Canadian cyclocross rider.
