Ruby West conquers the snow at North Carolina CX
Fresh snow doesn't slow down under-23 Canadian champion
On Saturday, Ruby West conquered the snowy conditions to win on day 1 of North Carolina CX. The Canadians under-23 champion was coming into the race fresh off a pair of wins last weekend at NBX Gran Prix of ‘Cross in Warwick, Rhode Island.

A dump of fresh snow made the course challenging for the racers. Off camber sections were still muddy under the fresh snow making it a tricky course to navigate.

West took the lead early and rode her lead out over the field. In the early technical sections she led with Lily Williams from Asheville, North Carolina chasing in second. Emily Shields also of North Carolina and Cassandra Maximenko rode in third and fourth respectively.
Despite a hard chase from Williams, West held on for the win. Shields finished third to round out the podium.

In the elite men’s race in North Carolina, Kerry Warner took the win.

Canadian elite men’s champion Michael van den Ham was in Texas at the North Texas Cyclocross race in Garland. After a hard fought battle in conditions completely opposite to those in North Carolina. van den Ham finished second.
